During World War II, pin-ups emerged from the fine airbrushed art of famous artists, whose images were the most sought-after section of popular men’s magazines. Tens of thousands of airplanes were decorated with these incredible and often sexy images. “Nose art” emerged as the aviator’s unique calling card. Although the Army Air Force attempted to ban and censor nose art on several occasions, ultimately it emerged as a defining element of the era. Tim Boatright’s artwork captures the spirit of this time in history.
“My ‘nose art’ collection serves to honor my heroes – the brave pilots of WWII and the Golden Age Illustrators who have inspired me for my entire life.”
– Tim Boatright
